Building the Character —Literally

Suggested ages: 8 and under. This is a stage movement class for our younger audiences members. In this class they’ll learn how they can create a character and tell a story with just their body. No props, costumes or pencils needed! How did actors turn themselves into the dog, stuffies, flowers and balloons that are all characters in this year’s Make/Believe festival? Building the Story

Suggested ages: 9 and older. This is a playwrighting class for our older audience members. Kids and teens in this class will learn the basics of how to tell their own short story for the stage — character, setting, plot, dialogue, obstacles and resolution. This class is a safe, encouraging space where budding playwrights can feel comfortable exploring their creativity in a virtual setting. Teacher: Carolyn Minor.

Building the World

Suggested ages: All ages (parents included!). Who doesn’t love crafts?! In this class, students and their parents — this is a class for all ages, after all — will learn about the art of prop and costume making. Two important aspects of stagecraft. Flowers, boats, monsters and more. Learn how to make props and dress up your characters all with things gathered from around your home. Advance registration is highly suggested for this class, so teachers can provide a list of suggested items to have handy to help our future props masters and costumers create. Please note: All classes are expected to run between 30 to 45 minutes, though exact length is left up to the discretion of the teachers and students. But no worries if students have to leave early — unlike Zoom school, this learning is meant to be educational AND fun. Our Theatre-Artists-In-Training can learn at their own pace.
